Influencing Cultural Change One Story at a Time

July 7, 2016

StoryConf2

The Story Conference takes place in Melbourne later this year, the fourth in a series founded in 2009. Its program, ‘Influencing Cultural Change One Story at a Time’ brings together storytelling approaches used to gain knowledge in the workplace, and looks at how a multitude of stories can be utilised for successful cultural change.

Narrative story techniques offer powerful ways to understand, diagnose, and influence change within organisations and communities. Two of our senior Playback members, Johanna de Ruyter and Stephen Meagher, will lead a conference session Finding the Emotional Catalyst for Change early on Day 2. It will look at what Playback offers in terms of using the various emotions that arise around change, and providing a forum to express them. Attendees will most likely be professionals working with narrative streams –  community builders, change consultants, leaders, organisational development practitioners, group facilitators, HR, coaches and managers – in business, community or government.

Playback Theatre is ideally positioned to support culture change within organisations as default human reactions to change, and the stories we tell ourselves, are the realm that Playback investigates – human emotion and story. Emotions are vitally important to personal and organisational health yet they are often overlooked when pursuing a new direction or a greater purpose. Whenever we perform in organisations, we know that change is always accompanied by a strong emotional response. We believe this needs to be acknowledged, managed and processed, not ignored or dismissed. We hope you can join us and advise your networks this fascinating 2.5 day conference taking place in Melbourne later this year.
